Dr Elsie Shu-Han Yang is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, National Science and Technology Council in Taiwan, and an adjunct Assistant Professor at the Academic Writing and Education Center, National Taiwan University. Her research interests include comparative literature, literary theory, and cultural studies, with a focus on psychoanalysis, memory and mourning theories, and posthuman and media theory. Her work traces uncanny narratives from Victorian ghost stories and Gothic fiction to contemporary Japanese, Taiwanese, and Asian-American fiction and film, exploring memory and mourning, and techno-cultural anxieties surrounding self-other relations. She has published in international journals, including “Messianic Becoming in Blade Runner 2049: Dis-symmetrical Epiphanies and Identities” in Film-Philosophy (Edinburgh University Press, 2025) and “Haunting from within and beyond Memory: From Impossible to Possible Mourning in DeLillo’s The Body Artist” in Review of English and American Literature (2020), to be reprinted in Short Story Criticism (Gale/Cengage).
